Is it part of the human psyche to always expect that ‘the
End is Nigh’?
I remember when a group of people climbed a mountain to wait
for the Coming End
of the World that they were sure
was imminent. But it did not happen!
Americans of the Bible Belt
permanently look forward to the coming ‘Rapture’ after we first experience
Armageddon! All seem convinced that they will be the only ones to be ‘saved’.
The latest paranoia seems to be the
Global Warming Myth! Global Warming is fast becoming a religion! Its disciples
need faith because they cannot actually prove it! (In fact the contrary is true – but to say that is to commit heresy!)
The credo goes like this:-
‘We
are destroying the planet. We must be punished. Redemption comes only from
higher taxes and getting rid of our cars and planes.’
A recent London
conference about Global Warming brought ‘strange signs’ from the heavens: the
first October snow in London
in 74 years! And protesters (adherents) had to seek sanctuary inside the
coal-fired power station that they were protesting about!
The truth is that this is the sin
of vanity! Do we really think that human behaviour has such wide-ranging power
over the world’s climate? Do we honestly think that ‘green policies’ in the UK can
somehow save the whole planet!
The reality is that we are several
years into a mini-Ice Age, which happens periodically whatever we do. It
relates to sun spot activity, or lack of activity! And is a perfectly natural phenomenon.
Not the best time to increase
heating bills!
